Saxy's Savage Shock Mod

Want to lower your Savage's ride height? Here's a quick and easy way to do so.

Items needed:
- Savage shocks
- 6" Fuel tubing
- Ruler/measuring tape
- Pliers
- Hobby knife or scissors
- Shock oil (your preference, I use 25wt oil)

1) Wipe down the exterior of your shock. Overall length is 6¾".

2) Disassemble the shock and slide the shaft out of the tube. Make sure you completely disassemble and clean your shocks. Wash with soap and hot water and get all the dirt off!

3) Cut your desired size fuel tube. I went with ¾". Make sure all eight are cut to the same length.

4) Slide the fuel tube down the shaft to touch the piston.

5) Now reassemble the shocks. Ideally you'll replace the o-rings in the bottom of the shock body with new ones (HPI #6819) and the o-ring inside the cap as well (HPI #6816). Remember to lube your o-rings! That'll help the shaft to slide through the o-ring much easier. Tighten the lower nut, and fill the shock about 80% full with shock oil. Now push the shock shaft up into the shock body until just before it comes out the top and top off the shock body with lube. Now move the shock shaft/piston up and down several times, making sure not to push it up and out of the oil. The object is to free up all air bubbles so they can make their way tot the top and get out of the system. Once that's done, fill the shock (with the piston near the top) to the brim and gently and carefully install the shock cap.

6) Done. Now the extended shock length is 6". Do this to all eight shocks and, depending on your springs, you have lowered the ride height and center of gravity on the truck!
